Sport Council

Staff from Sporting Start established the Boroughbridge Cluster Sports Council using legacy funding from GetSet (The educational body of the London 2012 Olympic Games). We have worked closely with the organisation since, developing young sporting leaders of the future.

Year 5 and 6 pupils are able to apply for a place on the Sport Council each September and those selected are given the inspiring opportunity to meet with an Olympian and attend leadership sessions with pupils from other local schools. With many of our cluster schools having 100 pupils or less, this is a fantastic opportunity for children to meet like-minded peers, develop confidence and learn new skills.

In the summer term our new Young Leaders help to plan and run an Olympic Day for the peers from their school. The event has grown year on year with 12 schools competing in 2016 in events such as cycle time trial, y-ball, rounder’s and athletics.

In 2018 one of the former Sport Council members re joined the group as a Young Ambassador. Since then George has been assisting with the running of Sport Council
